Like any other medical procedure the colonic irrigation equipment is a necessity. The equipment complexity depends on the purpose or usage. Some of them are for individual or small scale user whereas others are for multiple users. The board is cushioned and comes with several pillows to add the comfort to the patient thus he feels relaxed. The board can also be use as a medical massage board. It has a plastic cover that stops the liquid waste from permeating in the under sponges. In some more sophisticated medical institution other equipment are included as the music stereos, electric massage gadgets and timers.
The other crucial colonic irrigation equipment is the speculum which enables the purified water to safely and comfortably enter the colon. The speculums come in either reusable or disposable versions. The reusable one are slowly being overtaken by the disposable due to the following factors; research has greatly reduced the cost of their production thus they are very cheap; in fact their cost is cheaper than the cost of disinfect the reusable once, there is ease of connecting to the water purifying machines, increase of communicable diseases that harden the process of cleaning after use and increased allergy to materials that make the reusable speculums as stainless steel.
Some of these equipments can be replaced as the medical ozone generators by methods as hanging water bag from shower bars. Instead of timers one can use wrist watch or a clock to know the time spent. The alternatives are commonly being used for home therapies where economy is considered.
